Alzheimer’s home care places client’s dignity, independence, and wellbeing at the forefront of its services. Adults with Alzheimer’s benefit from slowed memory loss progression when allowed to remain at home with expert care and support.

As Alzheimer’s home care providers throughout New Jersey and Southwest Florida, our clients age in place in the comfort of their homes and communities. This significantly reduces the stress and anxiety of relocation or transitioning into a New Jersey or Florida care facility, ensuring clients remain socially connected and engaged in their social circles and community networks.

Affordable Senior Home Care’s services focus on companionship and supervision, overnight and live-in options, respite care for spouse and family caregivers, brain-healthy meal planning and preparation, personal care services, and more.

Benefits of Alzheimer’s Home Care

Remain Comfortably in the Home

By bringing our services into the home, clients feel safe and cared for. They experience less agitation or confusion surrounded by the familiar. In-home services keep them socially engaged and anchored in the connection to Home.

Flexible Part-Time & Full-Time Shifts

We’re here for your loved one as needed. Shifts are billed in four-hour minimum increments and can be scheduled on part-time, full-time, overnight, or live-in bases. We also offer respite care to provide short- or long-term breaks for primary caregivers.

Assistance With Daily Tasks

Personal care and light housekeeping services maintain clean, safe, and organized environments. This includes daily assistance with bathing, changing, grooming, toileting, laundry, and linen services. We also offer medication reminders, transportation, errand running, and meal preparation.

Our Specialized Alzheimer’s Home Care Services

Alzheimer’s home care services are personalized. In the beginning, we may provide visits a few times a week to support grocery shopping and errand running, prepare meals, or offer respite care for primary caregivers. Over time, as memory loss progresses, we tailor services accordingly.

In the mid-stages of Alzheimer’s, we fill in where our clients’ memory leaves off. Our employees re-introduce themselves each time to maintain familiarity and preserve our clients’ dignity. This might mean completing their dressing and accessorizing, reminding them of social engagements, getting them to/from activities safely, and accompanying them on daily walks.

Down the road, we assist with medication reminders, the more intimate aspects of personal and hygiene care, assisting with meals, keeping watch during restless nighttime hours, and ensuring clients are clean, refreshed, and ready to greet each day.

Companionship

Companionship is essential. It fosters continued social engagement while providing a safety buffer to protect loved ones from nighttime wandering or getting lost on walks or running routine errands. Our clients’ memories remain sharper longer since we play games, dance, read, solve puzzles, and actively engage in the world-at-large together.

Meal Preparation

High-quality nourishment, in the form of fresh whole foods that fight inflammation, is proven to slow down memory loss. As Alzheimer’s home care specialists, we create meal/snack plans in alignment with the latest Alzheimer’s-related diet research.

Medication Reminders

Forgetting to take medication or taking too many doses on the same day has a detrimental effect on individuals with Alzheimer’s. Our caregivers provide regular medication reminders that adhere strictly to the client’s roster of prescription medications. This optimizes their health and helps them feel their best – day in and day out.

Personal Care

Memory-related changes make it challenging for adults with Alzheimer’s to care for themselves. Professional caregivers provide full-spectrum personal care services – including bathing, toileting/incontinence care, and helping clients dress – while respecting the individual’s dignity and self-respect.

Social Activities & Outings

Maintaining routine social calendars and engaging with the community are essential for healthy brain function. Rather than sitting alone at home or in a room, our caregivers get clients out and about, honoring their previously scheduled social calendars and attending activities and events aligned with their interests and hobbies.

Memory-Specific Services

In-Home memory care closely attunes to clients’ memory loss progression, stepping up to provide re-introductions, reminders, and reminiscence therapy that keep clients from feeling respected and included. We honor clients’ current reality and keep them engaged using games, reminiscence therapy, and stimulating memories of happy times.

Understanding an Alzheimer’s Diagnosis

While our primary focus is on our client, Alzheimer’s home care providers also serve as resources for spouses and close family members. We’ll help you understand the basics of an Alzheimer’s diagnosis and what that means in terms of progressive loss of memory and abilities.

Our proactive approach helps you recognize and attend to the “Five A’s of Alzheimer’s:”

  • Amnesia: Memory loss typically begins with short-term memories and progresses to the disruption of long-term memories.
  • Aphasia: Loss of names/words/coherent sentences and the inability to understand what is being said or to follow a story.
  • Apraxia: The decline of motor skills, leading to shuffling, trip hazards, or the inability to complete daily personal care functions.
  • Agnosia. Inability to recognize people, places, or things.
  • Anomia. The person knows the “thing” but can’t come up with its name, requiring extra support from caregivers using gestures or simple questions.
